For Worship Musicians

I was in a particular church attending a paticular service recently.. and frankly, i was rather annoyed by some of the things going on during the worship. I felt that the musicians were making a lot of noise but there was no anointing. Yes, they were good musicians but there was no presence...

I'm writing this cos i am a musician and many of you who bother to read my blog are musicians.. not just any but worship musicians. And i just wanna come up with these pointers for us to learn from based on what i observed during that particular meeting.

Lesson#1- God blesses unity. Cos there's an anointing that's released in a place of unity (Psalm 133). The thing about some musicians nowadays is that they're so inflated with how good they are at their instrument that they "run off on their own" They play their own fills and whatever instead of playing in harmony with one-another and just worshipping the Lord. What i sensed about that particular band that was playing was that everyone had a different agenda... everyone was playing with a different purpose... and i don't like it. It's time that we start honouring God in our worship sessions again.

Lesson#2- Honour. The reason why i feel that band was so terrible was cos there was no honour amongst its musicians. Cos of the lack of honour, the anointing couldn't flow... cos Jesus' principle is that when He sent His disciples out to minister, they ministered to those who received them, to those who honoured them. The thing is that you can sense when there's no honour among the band members for each other. If a band can't even receive each other and submit to each other, how can they receive the King of Glory?

Hmm... not the usual advice one would give worship musicians.. but these principles are useful if you truly want the presence of God come strongly in the worship service!
