Lessons From Street-E

Havent blogged in a *considerably* long time... :P Anyway lotsa interesting stuff has been happening... Let's start from Saturday... Some of us went for street-e in the morning. What we did was we went around to some places in Ang Mo Kio central and ambushed people there who are studying. We then gave them some sweets to help them study better and then shared with them about God if they had time. We also prayed for them that God would help them even as they were in the mist of their exams. I've never done something like that before. It was really very tiring and i learned a lot of things from that experience.. Here are some points that maybe we all can learn from:

-It's easier to share with those people who are in Secondary school and below, especially girls.. they seem more open to the gospel. So if you fit into that age category, dun waste your opportunity!
-It's difficult and we really have to rely on God. There will be people who will turn you down flat. They will even refuse your sweets... rudely... so the love of Christ really has to flow out of you.
-Foreigners are more polite and open. Like the Mongolian guy we met.. too bad he couldn't speak English very well...
-People out there are really clueless about the gospel message! We take for granted that in highly-globalised Singapore, people would know about our faith and assume that they have heard about it just because of the occasional media exposure, etc... but it's not true... just because we're so used to hearing the gospel doesn't mean that they are... and we tend to assume that. They really need to know Him!
-Once you're out there doing this, you will know that there is really an urgent need to do this, to reach out to other people with the love of Christ. You'll see the many faces along the streets and you'll wonder to yourself how many of them know the Lord. Then you'll be hit by the realisation that it really is a big and urgent responsibility that one person can't handle... and you realise that all the more the church needs to rise up with a demonstration of His power, backed by prayer, going out and sending people out to win the lost for Him.
-I was quite tired and that made me realise my own limitations. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. God wants people out there! Cos there are so many to reach out to! It's too much for one man to carry out, and too much for even a few! We need people who truly carry the heart of God to this wounded and dying world.

That's why all the more we need to transit to having the kingdom mentality and evangelism as a lifestyle. Look at our church programmes and fellowship- we become too absorbed with our own problems and the maintenance of our own comfortable environment that we forget this need. We come by service after service, event after event and party after party and we get stuck in this wineskin for several years without many souls being added to the kingdom. Oh I hate this self-centred religious wineskin! What's more is that we tire ourselves trying to maintain it instead of moving on with God. God is bringing about some changes whether we like it or not... You know what? He wants us to lose control- and that's a good thing.. cos He wants to take over! I guess it's time we cooperate!

On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD going before them. Zechariah 12:8

I am looking forward to the day that the feeblest in the church will be as the great warrior was unto Israel and that the church will rise up in glory and manifest the very person of God to this wounded and dying world.
