Weekends

So the weekends were not as boring as i thought they would be in the end... so on saturday morning, Rayson read my blog post and he also had nothing to do so we went to watch letters from iwo jima at cathay.

The movie was ok lah... there were certain things that i gained from it applying to the spiritual context. First of all, that communication is very important especially during a war and that everyone needs to listen and carry out the leader's instructions and not go their own way, even if they don't see the big picture. Cos we are in a spiritual war whether we like it or not. And the way that satan wants to bring us down is to disrupt our communication channels between us and God and amongst ourselves. He tries every means necessary to distract us from our goals and from listening to God. He releases noise through music, TV, computer games and other forms of distractions so that we focus on the pleasure and not on the war. Also his strategy is to divide the brethren and to severe communication ties between us. This is done through causing disunity amongst people. It is important for us to keep the unity of the brethren in the bond of peace and we must always be on our guard and not allow ourselves to get involved in petty issues and quarrels during this spiritual war. We have to be more alert and focused on God, listening for His instructions and strategies so we'll succeed. Solomon prayed for a listening heart, a dscerning heart ever hearing God. Lord, we need wisdom and we know that You have provided evrything that we every need in Christ Jesus! :) Thank You, Holy Spirit! :)

The movie also got me thinking that it is not the physical war that is important. If people go to war in the first place, it's wrong already. War is the way of the devil. War involves evil spirits at work. We wouldn't want to associate with that. So it's not the external war that matters but the internal. God is more interested in building into us His character into us and establishing His kingdom within us as His kingdom is not of this world but His kingdom is within us. So physical and outward victories are not as important as the victories that are won inside of us when we submit to His work in our lives and it produces in us kingdom virtue and faith- things that count for eternity, that don't perish with this world and that no one can take away. The martyrs of old have had their freedom taken away, their bodies imprisoned and later even destroyed but all along through these things the kingdom of God has been advancing through the inner virtues established within them- something that their persecutors could not take away. The kingdom of God is a mystery cos it's all about submission and as we submit to God and His purposes in our lives, despite the deepest struggles we go through, the kingdom within us advances. Think about it- a war fought through submission? Ridiculous it may be in men's eyes yet it produces within us eternal virtues more important that earthly glories! Hallelujah!

Earlier on, i wrote about a paradigm shift, a change in mindsets... now God is bringing about a change of focus in the kingdom age. Now is the time we move from focusing on the external but the internal, from church numbers to Christ's disciples. The focus is shifting to the kingdom of God on the inside. Hallelujah! :)

Ok... went to church on sunday. Then went with Alvin, Val and Serene as they ate their lunch... Then went home to sleep for a while :P after that, went with alvin to cathay to watch Ghostrider. If you haven't seen Ghostrider yet, then don't. It's quite a demonic show and besides, it wasn't very good either. The themes lack depth and it was trying more to appeal to fans than to convey a particular message. Not worth your ang pow dollar...

Then went back home and went out with QQ at night to catch Protege. Yes, i watched 3 movies during the weekend but havent really caught up with him for a long time lah. The show was very good. I think that of all the movies i watched, Protege conveyed the strongest message. One thing that caught my attention was when the lead (Nick) was contemplating to himself in the prologue and epilogue why people take drugs and he answered his own question- it's because of the emptiness inside. This i find absolutely true. Cos only God can fill that void. People turn to drugs, to entertainment, to relationships to fill that void but they fail. God has put eternity in the hearts of men and only He can fill that longing and desire through Jesus Christ.
