Deja Vu

Ok... after abandoning my previous blog since 2004, i decided to get a new one... so here's the first post, yeah...

Watched Deja Vu today at vivo with joel... nice show.. Those of you reading this should really go and watch it.. You can learn a lot from it.. seriously.. When I was in the cinema, I sensed that the Holy Spirit was there (you know that kinda goose-bumpy feeling that you get when you're in the presence of God) so I opened up my heart for Him to speak to me through the movie.

So anyway, the movie explored the concept of destiny and whether it can be changed. For those of you who've seen the movie, Denzel Washington's character (Doug) is a type representative of Jesus. It seems that the movie has a lot of symbolism related to the concept of intercession and how intercession involves sacrifice. As the movie goes, a terrorist blows up a boat holding a lot of innocent ppl. Doug later finds out that the crime was connected to the mysterious death of a lady. The ATF agent was later involved in tracking down the terrorist only to discover that he could go back in time and change things.

What impressed me firstly was Doug's genuine concern for the lives of the victims, including the murdered woman (Claire). He then even risked his own life in the process of time travel as well as when he drove the car containing the explosives into the river and blew up with it. This sacrifice he made was so significant as it altered the course of time that ppl who were "supposed" to die could live. This reminded me of how Jesus was able to see through time and, knowing how the devil steals, kills and destroys, paid the price with His death on the cross for our sins so that we can be eternally forgiven and set free. Doug later reappears at the end (cos there were 2 of them in that time period). This reminds me of Jesus' resurrection, after which He now sits with the ministry of intercession in heaven, praying for us, those who believe in Him. The show also talks about how "destiny" can be changed through such intercession just as how Moses even interceded for the Israelites for God to spare them after building the golden calf. Moses even offered for God to blot his name out of the book of life just to spare them... (I got more to talk abt.. if ur really interested, ask me, k..)

What was significant was that on the boat were men women and children who died during the explosion. This shows how even the most "innocent" of us could not escape the death that sin brings into our lives. As Doug was the only one who could save them, it is only Jesus who can save us.

Claire's character represented the church. The movie showed that the church should not allow the devil to steal, kill and destroy any longer but to take it's place next to the King of Kings and serve as an instrument for Him to carry out His righteous judgment upon the Kingdom of darkness just as Claire drove the car and ran it into the terrorist, giving Doug an opportunity to kill him. It is also significant that Doug said to her that the only way she is safe is when she is with him. This is a call to the church to stay close to the Lord and not move away from Him. Claire was also instrumental in saving everyone in driving the explosives off the boat (Notice that Doug didn't do it and only offered the simple advice when they were threatened by police at gunpoint that if they got out of the car, everybody would die). Similarly, the Lord wants the church to rise up and take her position as the Lord's instrument for His salvation plan. Note that the terrorist kidnapped her and took her car before having the ability to blow up the boat. This is Satan's ploy to bind up the church in order to rob the nation. We must never stop praying, brothers and sisters!

Notice also the overall theme on revival (the note regarding the baptist church and revival, what was written on Doug when he arrived in the past, etc...)? It is also interesting to note that Claire had to be saved ("revived") first before the others on the ship who were targets of the terrorist attack. May the Lord revive His church that we may be a beacon of hope to a dying generation. Amen! :)

The authorities represented the religious system who seeks to replace reality with religion. They sat back behind a screen watching the murders unfold but not offering any solution to even attempt to save the ppl. Even some people in the church would rather sit comfortably behind church pews contented with their own lifestyle rather than reach out to those who truly need salvation. The apathy displayed by the authorities who wanted to shut down the project after the suspect has been apprehended speaks of the apathy of the religious system, so distinct from the real church that Christ had purposed it to be. Sad isn't it?

As the famous saying goes, a railing at the top of a cliff is better than an ambulance service at the bottom. Wouldn't it be better for us to pray before tragedy stikes rather than carry out "compensative" activities after??

The sense of justice has to return to the church even as we saw Claire run back into the boat and offer help when she saw the terrorist return to the boat to carry out his plan. We can't just sit around and do nothing... rite? :)
